Our name and logo
Jolinaiko: link with The Netherlands
The name Jolinaiko was put together by combining different names of Dutch friends who played an important role as contact points and advisors during the creation of this business. Our long-term friendships with people of Dutch origin living in Ghana and abroad have created a strong link and understanding with visitors from The Netherlands.
Eco tourism
We call ourselves an eco-tourism company. In short, we define eco tourism as a healthy, sustainable and friendly method of tourism. Our method is focused on experiencing local life style and respecting natural resources.
Besides the development of our own community based village lodges in Ghana and Togo, we include many official and unofficial eco-tourism projects in our tours.
Our logo: the Sankofa bird and compass
The Sankofa bird in the logo best explains the vision of Jolinaiko Eco Tours.
“Se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenki” is the expression given by the Akan people of West Africa for this bird. Literally translated it means “it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot.” Sankofa teaches us that we must go back to our roots in order to move forward.
The compass stands for the guided adventures we offer. We show our visitors the way to the most interesting spots West Africa has to offer, and then lead them surely and safely back!
The logo was designed by Remco Kalf, as a part of the ongoing support for Jolinaiko by the Dutch Stepping Stones for Africa foundation.
